“Eat Better!!!” “Eat Healthy!!!”
How many times have you heard this advice? If you had a nickel every time someone advised you to eat better, you would… Well, you know what…
For all the knowledge in the world, eating better or eating healthy is not easy to do. A cookie there, a pastry here, and you can throw your diet plan into the bin.
Yes, there are people who religiously stick to their diet plan… But, majority of the population does not fall under this category. At some point or another, we all give in to our cravings. And, it is absolutely okay. Unless you are appearing on a magazine cover or plan to become a bikini model, you don’t have to starve yourself on lettuce.
The secret to eating better and eating healthy is to eat natural and organic.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has recently suggested that eating organic food reduces the risk of several diseases and conditions, and has numerous health benefits. The President’s Cancer Panel has also advised to stay away from chemicals, and reduce exposure to pesticides and additives in food.
So, what is organic food?
In simple words, organic food consists of products that are grown without certain chemical ingredients in them. It mainly depends on the way the products are grown and produced. Following are some substances that are prohibited while growing and producing food for it to qualify as organic food:
- Artificial growth hormones
- Artificial sweeteners
- Artificial dyes
- High fructose corn syrup
- Synthetically created chemical pesticide and fertilizers
- Genetically engineered proteins and ingredients
- Sewage sludge
Did you even have any idea that the food products you pick up from the supermarket have the above substances in them? The above is the reason why we as a generation are more prone to diseases and other conditions when compared to previous generations. What we label as “organic food” today was just called “food” a hundred years ago.
So, where to look for organic food?
Look no further than the nearest Aldi store.
One of the largest food retailers in the world, Aldi has decided to expand its organic food product line. It is adding more gluten-free products, and reducing artificial ingredients from its existing products. It is removing added MSG, hydrogenated oils and certified synthetic colors from 90% of its products. Its fresh and organic meat product line is also seeing massive changeover. Added animal by-products, hormones, antibiotics and other additives will no longer be part of Aldi’s “Never Any!” brand of meats.
What makes Aldi’s initiative even more attractive is the fact that its pricing is lower than many other supermarkets and grocery chains in the US.
Next time you go grocery shopping, make it a priority to choose organic foods. It is such simple choices that lead to a healthy life.
