Signs of Vitamin D Deficiency and Its Sources

Vitamin D is essential for the human body. Its deficiency has for long been associated with cancer, asthma, cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis and many other diseases. The appalling thing about this is that they don’t even know that they are Vitamin D deficient.

Sources of Vitamin D

The best source of Vitamin D is the sun. Exposure to direct sunlight is a great way to get necessary amounts of Vitamin D. It is to be noted that Vitamin D is not produced when the skin is protected. Hence, it is ideal to spend 10-15 minutes in the sun without applying sunscreen. The ideal amount of Vitamin D required depends on skin color, age, season, time of day, etc. But, 10-15 minutes must be good enough for an average person.

Other sources of Vitamin D are milk, orange juice, cereals, yogurt, egg yolk, salmon and shrimp.

Prevention is always better than cure. So, watch out for these signs in you and check your Vitamin D levels periodically.
