Health Benefits: Drinking Water with Baking Soda on an Empty Stomach

One of the simplest, most common and versatile products that you can find in every kitchen is the baking soda. Baking soda is not just great for use in cookies but also has plenty of health benefits when consumed right. You can get rid of some serious ailments by just drinking a glass of water with baking soda on an empty stomach every morning.

Balance body pH levels

An acidic environment is the perfect condition under which many of the serious conditions and diseases, such as osteoporosis, arthritis, and cancer, thrive in. A healthy pH is a necessity in some parts of the body such as the gut and the skin. Acid in the gut is used for digesting food. Skin, on the other hand, is also acidic as it acts as a barrier between external and internal environments. It basically functions as a detoxifying organ.

A health pH levels in our blood is between 7.4 and 7.5. The pH level in a healthy person is slightly alkaline and not acidic as it is above the neutral pH value of 7. pH value between 1 and 7 is acidic in nature and between 7 and 14 is basic or alkaline in nature. Drinking water and baking soda on an empty stomach has an alkalizing effect on the body. This is great for good blood health, which in turn is necessary for healing the whole body and maintains a state of homeostasis.

Antacid Effect

An overly acidic body is responsible for acid reflux and heartburn. They also are a typical indicator of potassium and magnesium deficiency in the body. They are a result of improper functioning of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), which fails to contract as required. LES is a valve connecting the esophagus and the stomach. When functioning properly. LES makes sure that the acid is contained within the stomach and does rise further up. It is when acid escapes the stomach and raises up, as high as the throat, that you experience heartburns. This can be fixed by consuming magnesium and potassium rich food such as bananas, avocado, and leafy greens. Another simpler way to do it is by drinking water and baking soda, which assists in production of hydrochloric acid in the gut. This in turn helps with LES issue, gas and heartburn.

Prevents Kidney Stones

One of the causes of kidney stones is the combination of highly acidic body and iron deficiency. In fact, an indicator of iron deficiency is highly acidic urine. Buildup of uric acid results in the formation of kidney stones. Drinking water with baking soda helps in dissolving kidney stones and prevents new ones from forming.

Prevent Urinary Tract Infections

A weakened immune system causes Urinary Tract Infections (UTI). A weaker immune system gives the necessary boost required by an infection. Baking soda has anti-septic properties and this helps in cleaning and purifying the blood, and in turn the bladder and kidney. This then prevent the development of urinary tract infections.

Baking soda is also known to treat flu and cold along with improving physical performance.

How to drink Baking Soda Water?

It is very simple and easy. Take a glass of water and add a teaspoon baking soda to it. Drink it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Drink two glasses a day and increase the dose to see better and faster results. It is ideal to measure the pH to track the improvement, and stay within the desired limits.
